Bayeux

Miraculously spared by Allied bombing in 1944, Bayeux boasts an exceptional architectural heritage.
At the heart of its medieval town center, the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral, a skilful blend of Romanesque and Gothic art, proudly dominates a well-preserved urban ensemble: venerable monuments, half-timbered houses, Renaissance residences and 18th-century townhouses, all criss-crossed by the charming cobbled streets and Aure courtyards of the old Tanneurs district.
Bayeux is also the guardian of the famous Bayeux Tapestry, an age-old masterpiece nearly 70 meters long, recounting the conquest of England by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy.
A veritable treasure listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register, this tapestry reads like a medieval comic strip, plunging you into the epic story of Viking ships, Norman horsemen and the great hours of Norman history.
