Gold Beach

Gold Beach: a historic place between sea and memory

At the heart of the D-Day landing beaches, Gold Beach occupies a symbolic place in the history of June 6, 1944. Located between Asnelles and Ver-sur-Mer, it was assigned to British troops during Operation Overlord. Their mission? Break through the German defenses, capture Bayeux and establish a strategic link with the other landing zones.

Today, Gold Beach is an 8-kilometre-long ribbon of golden sand, lapped by the waves of the English Channel. Quiet and majestic, it is still home to the remains of the Mulberry B artificial harbour, a technical feat that enabled the Allies to land men and equipment en masse. The British Normandy Memorial, recently inaugurated on the heights of the beach, pays tribute to the thousands of British soldiers who fell in Normandy.

Gold Beach is a place of remembrance, but also a place of relaxation and wonder. Between walks on the beach, historical discoveries and seascapes as far as the eye can see, it invites both reflection and escape. A must-see site for reliving history, understanding its heritage and enjoying a natural, soothing setting.
