Omaha Beach and the American cemetery

A necropolis in memory of American soldiers who died on French soil…
Overlooking Omaha Beach, Colleville-sur-Mer American Cemetery is home to 9,387 white steles, perfectly aligned on lawns, housing the remains of American soldiers who died during D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
On one side is the cemetery itself, on the other a monumental memorial, featuring a Greek Revival peristyle, a 7-metre-high bronze statue symbolizing the Soul of American Youth, a “Garden of the Missing” and a water feature.
Every day, visitors can take part in the color ceremony, a solemn and moving moment.
Nearby, the Visitor Center of the Colleville-sur-Mer American Cemetery retraces the fate of the soldiers who fell for freedom and the historical context of the Normandy Landings through objects, testimonials and projections.
